طلاق أمريكى اسلامى

I live in the united states. I recently filed for divorce and according to my lawyer I will get my devorce by March 16th. My husband says that this divorce is not recognized in Islam and I will still be his wife as long as he did not divorce me islamically. Please, I need to know the status of my American divorce in Islam. Note:My husband treats me well and does not take my money. However, he is not man enough in my eyes, and I treat him like a child. In the last 3 years I gave him his right 3 or 4 times only because I can not sleep with a child any more, and since I know that this action is very haram in Islam I therefore filed for divorce. Please tell me if this divorce is ok or not ok in Islam.
